Beau’s Journey

February 28, 2009: Weather instruments are back!

The ice storm wiped out all of my weather instruments.  I got them back yesterday.  They look like they are good as new!  YAY.  Not sure if I will put them back up or not.  Won’t be long I will be installing them on the tower up on the farm.  Might just go ahead and do that now.

We had light snow today.  Nothing major - at least not here.  Portions of Missouri and Tennessee reported 6-10 inches!!!!  Meanwhile here in Paducah - a dusting.  lol  About what was expected.  Pretty wild, though, how a few counties away they are shoveling snow.

We found some wood floors today at the home show.  They make them out of barns that are torn down in the area.  Pretty cool.  We love the look - Deena and Tony are going to use the same guy for their wood floors.  They are building this year, as well.

Midterms continue - will take the last one tomorrow.  :)  Then off to Oklahoma for the severe storm conference.

My weather instruments made it back!!!!!

A dusting of snow outside our door.  :)

Rest In Peace Paul Harvey.

CHICAGO – Paul Harvey, the news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation’s most familiar voices, died Saturday in Arizona, according to ABC Radio Networks. He was 90.

  • February 27, 2009: Winter weather?

Wow - a long day.  Spent about 12 hours studying for one of my midterms.  Hopefully I did okay!

The DAFFODILS are blooming outside of my house here in Lone Oak!!!!!  SPRING????  IS THAT YOU????  :)  The LAST day of METEOROLOGICAL winter is tomorrow!  Then Meteorological Spring begins!!!!  I for one am thrilled.  BRING IT ON!

Looks like winter weather will spread over the region by Saturday morning and into the afternoon hours.  A novelty storm with a few inches of snow possible across portions of the region (dusting in Paducah to several inches down by Fulton County).  West Tennessee is actually under a winter storm watch!  Go figure!!  They may see 4-8" of snow!

Going to the Home Show tomorrow - downtown Paducah.  Might get some ideas for the new house!

  • February 27, 2009: Made it back home

Well, we made it back home!  Mother Nature is going to greet us with a big HELLO.  It appears we are just in time for thunderstorms tonight and snow on Sautrday?  A little bit of snow may fall over the area on Saturday - not expecting anything major.  Never a dull moment in the weather department.  Quite a change, though, from the 70+ degree weather of Key West.

  • February 25, 2009: Meanwhile back home on the farm…coming along

Tony took these photographs.  It looks like the foundation work continues to move forward.  :)  I am not sure if I will be up there when they put the tornado shelter in.  I hope so.  I will be away next week to a severe weather conference.  Leaving Tuesday night.

    Foundation work continues

I believe this is the beginning of the tornado shelter :)

  • February 24, 2009: Key West

Cold front went through the Keys over the last 24 hours.  So, temperatures fell into the sixties overnight!  I guess I can’t complain about sixties, though.  I would take that back home these days.  Looks like METEOROLOGICAL SPRING is just a few days away.  That means severe weather season is about to begin.  Looks like a wet spring is forecast for our region.  We will have to see if that means a stormy spring, as well.

This is where we are staying at in Key West - The Southern Most House - this is also the southern most
    point in the United States

I did not know that Tony had a cafe in Key West!!!!!!

Key West is famous for their roosters :)

Everything is going to be busy once I get back home.   The house building is coming along.  Looks like we will start framing everything up in a week or two.  Then I have a severe weather conference next weekend - the home show is this weekend.  Mid-terms are this weekend and on Monday/Tuesday.  Leave Wednesday for Norman, Oklahoma.

  • February 22, 2009: Sunny day in Key West

A beautiful day down here in Key West.  The temperatures are perfect - 70s!  Nice ocean breeze as well.  Just a few clouds scattered about today.  We walked around most of the day and then went on a sunset cruise in the evening.  A beautiful sunset!  :)

  • February 20, 2009: Looking at apartments in Murray - heading out of town

You can tell that spring is just around the corner.  Standing in the sun today you could feel the warmth and see the higher angle in the sky.  Meteorological Spring begins in a few days - March 1st!  Hopefully we will start to seeing warmer temperatures with each passing week.  :)

I am sure we will still have one or two winter storm threats.  As a matter of fact - Saturday will feel like winter.  A cold front will push through the region and with it will come some moderate snow showers - with the wind blowing out of the north it might look more impressive than it actually is.  Some areas could see an inch or so of snow.

Long range models look wet.  Have to watch the spring flood threat.

We looked at some apartments in Murray today.  We don’t own anything in Murray, but are looking at some that just came on the market.  They are only a mile or two away from the college.  Nice location.

Leaving town for a couple of days.  Midterms start later next week!  The severe weather conference will come soon after.  Then house building.  :)  So, a busy month ahead.  Busy spring!  Severe weather season also starts in a few weeks.

  • February 19, 2009: NWA Meeting - house on the farm

We had a GREAT NWA (Four Rivers National Weather Association) meeting the other night at WPSD TV 6.  It looks like we are going to have a tornado symposium in March (third week).  It will be held at John A Logan College.  Some really good speakers are going to talk about some of the recent tornado events, the Tri State Tornado, the ice storm and a few other topics!  Should be fun!  CJ’s Bus is going to be there, as well.

I was at the farm today and it appears they are working!  Everything is moving forward.  So, after a few weeks of "ice storm" delays we are back on track.  I believe they will start the framing process in a few weeks.

Windy tonight and colder.  Still looks like we might get some snow/rain on Saturday across the region.  I will be out of town - so will miss whatever falls.
